Five artists. One studio in Târgu Mureș. One adventure together.
The first days of the ECHOES residency were about getting to know each other. Five musicians who had never played together, working out how to build something as a group.
Patricia Marchiș, saxophone. Liliia Kholomeniuk, piano. Csaba Pethő and David Vinazza, guitars. Mirian Kolev, field recordings and electronics.
They came from different musical worlds. A bandleader from a jazz collective, a pianist from a philharmonic orchestra, two guitarists trained in jazz and improvisation, and a sound artist whose practice is acoustic ecology. Selected through an open call, they met for the first time in the studio.
The brief was one piece built together. Agree on a key as a group, let one of them bring the theme, and develop the rest around it. Everything else stayed open: style, tempo, form, how much was written and how much was found in the room. Alongside it, each artist developed their own work.
Pine cones, bark and other found material were recorded and processed into the music. Listening came before composing.
The work made here becomes the eco-soundscapes album, Sound Is a Shared Habitat, released on 9 October 2026. Seven tracks: two built by all five artists together, and one from each of them alone.
